acetate. n. (3) a sheet of clear plastic film fastened over the front of artwork for protection, as an overlay, or the like. "I used to print out my slides on acetone – or rather acetate." (Dictionary.com)

decorentation. n. (fabricated in class). a portmanteau of decoration and ornament. "The middle-aged, slightly rotund bishop made the Bricklip, which was used a decorentation."

to dumb luck. v. (again, fabricated) to fall into a situation coincidentally, as if by chance. "The Bricklip inventor kind of dumb lucked it and avoided a higher burden of proof because he had already been selling his product for five years."

lynchpin. n. (1) A locking pin inserted in the end of a shaft, as in an axle, to prevent a wheel from slipping off. (2) A central cohesive element. "Confusion was the lynchpin of his trademark infringement case."(Dictionary.com)

enjoin. v. to prohibit or restrain by an injunction. "The burger joint wanted to enjoin its competitor."

ginormous. adj. extremely large, humongous. "The trademark infringement case they won was ginormous." (Merriam Webster Online)

On being an expert witness on a trademark dispute:
"[The lawyers] spent two hours on my resume to try and prove that I didn't know what the hell I was talking about ... so they could skewer me."

willy nilly. adv./adj. seemingly at random, haphazardly. "The man in the trademark office reviewing the applications applied willy nilly judgment." (Wiktionary)

nomenclature. n. (1) a set or system of names or terms, as those used in a particular science or art, by an individual or community, etc. (2) the names or terms comprising a set or system. "That is why you have 30 page nomenclature guides ... to protect your brand identity." (Dictionary.com) [Originally first introduced to our discussion by J., but then later he repeated it.]

nasty gram. n. A message written in a tone that is confrontational. It is often petty and lacking in tact. A nasty gram can be venomous, incendiary, and/or hateful as well. "If someone infringes your trademark, then your legal department sends out cease-and-desist nastygrams." (Urban Dictionary)
